Bernard completed his medical training at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 2006, graduating with Honours in degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
Commencing as a junior doctor at Royal Perth Hospital, he subsequently worked across all the major tertiary hospitals in Perth whilst completing his specialist training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Bernard became a Specialist Plastic Surgeon in 2018 when he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).
Having developed a special interest in microsurgical reconstruction, Bernard gained further post-fellowship experience in 2018 in advanced reconstructive procedures at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
He then returned to Perth to commence private practice and take up appointments as a Consultant Specialist Plastic Surgeon at Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley Hospitals.
