New Stan series details Dr Vijayasekaran’s role in the 2002 Bali bombings
Now streaming on Stan, the four-part original TV series Bali 2002 is based on the actual events of the 2002 Bali terrorist bombings. Our Specialist Plastic Surgeon Dr Vij Vijayasekaran and his wife Dr Priya Thalayasingam were on holiday in Bali at the time of the attacks and the series shows their roles in the early emergency resuscitation, surgical management of the victims and the initiation and facilitation of the aeromedical evacuation of patients back to Australia, working along side Australian consular officials and the many Australian volunteers that came to help on the day.
Vij was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for the medical expertise and assistance he provided to the victims at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar. He was also jointly awarded ‘Australian of the Year’ by The Australian newspaper for the emergency care he provided.
Starring Arka Das as Dr Vijayasekaran, Amali Golden as Dr Thalayasingam, and acting along side Rachel Griffiths who plays Dr Fiona Wood, this is an inspiring true story of how everyday heroes from Bali, Australia and beyond defied the odds to bring order from chaos and hope from despair.
