The dangers of dodgy doctors
On June 20, Studio 10 featured a story on Gold Coast mother Sam Humm who underwent plastic surgery with a ‘cosmetic surgeon’ for a price that sounded too good to be true and unfortunately, left her with a result she was not expecting.
In the story, Trusted Surgeons Director Nicole Montgomery further highlights the legal loophole that currently exists in Australia, which is allowing self-described ‘cosmetic surgeons’ – who do not have the same level of accreditation and training as Specialist Plastic Surgeons – to perform invasive surgery on patients.
This dangerous lack of regulation exposes patients to a huge range of doctors with extremely varied surgical training and experience, which can lead to disastrous results both physically and mentally (and don’t forget your hip pocket).
If you are contemplating plastic or cosmetic surgery, it is vital you understand that the most important decision you will make is your choice of surgeon.
To ensure your safety, please do your research and ensure you have at least one consultation with a Specialist Plastic Surgeon who is a member of both the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
